It looks like Sprint iPhone users will have to buy AppleCare+ like the rest of us if you want a safety net for dropped, submerged, and otherwise demolished handsets. SprintFeed got its hands on a slide saying Sprint's Total Equipment Protection plans won't cover the iPhone.
Here's the thing: the $100 for AppleCare actually comes out to well under what the $7/month Sprint's Total Equipment Protection plans cost over a two-year contract. And the slide only specifies that the non-offering is planned "at launch" for now, so it could change. But with Sprint pinching pennies all over the place lately, it wouldn't be that surprising to see it just up and outsource all iPhone insurance nonsense Apple's way. Not all of Sprint's machinations ahead of likely offering the iPhone this October are bad. A few weeks after nearly doubling its early termination fee, Sprint is dropping the qualifying time for its upgrade plan from 22 months to 20, starting October 2nd.
Following the Department of Justice's suit against the proposed AT&T/T-Mobile deal, Sprint is predictably following their lead by filing a related federal lawsuit of their own, stating that the "proposed transaction is illegal."
You used to be cool(er) Sprint. Now we're hearing that you're raising your pro-rated ETF (Early Termination Fee) to $350 from $200. Just because AT&T and Verizon are charging $350 doesn't you need to raise yours.
When's the last time anyone got tangible information from a carrier's customer service representatives about a new phone? It's like worrying about Army recruits sharing the launch codes.
The Samsung Epic 4G Touch, which is the Samsung Galaxy S II for Sprint, was supposed to launch tomorrow but has now been pushed back because of Hurricane Irene. It should still come out by next week, though.
