An F1 Racing Barbecue Grill for No Reason Other Than Being Amazing [Desired]

By Kyle Wagner Oct 14, 2011 7:20 PM 14,439 7

I can't think of a single thing I'd rather F1 engineers doing with their downtime than building grills designed with F1 dynamics in mind. They only thing that could make Brennwagen grills more desirable would be guns to shoot your meat while you cook it.

Former F1 engineers Florian Wagner and Daniel Ernst got together to create these wonderful meat-burning machines. They've got "low profile tires, drop-center rims, center nuts [and] safety brakes," and the top-of-the-line GTX 1500 looks a smidge roomier than my first car. The smallest grill, the GTC 500, is diminutive enough to pass as a piece of carry-on luggage, and would probably be enough to give your local TSA agent a mild stroke.

Brennwagen's site isn't super-clear about the prices, but they do offer this lovely illustration of how they think trucks deliver will the grills. [Brennwagen via Core77]

One Reason Why You Shouldn't Use Your Wife's iPad [Ipad]

One Reason Why You Shouldn't Use Your Wife's iPad"You're going to be a Dad" is probably the last thing this unsuspecting husband expected to discover when he fired up his wife's iPad to play Angry Birds.

And if that isn't shocking enough, he now faces the most difficult task of his married life. No, it's not becoming a father, it's telling his wife that her surprise is ruined. [Imgur via Reddit]

Belkin's Thunderbolt Express Dock Finally Gives You a Reason to Remember You Have Thunderbolt [Thunderbolt]

Belkin's Thunderbolt Express Dock Finally Gives You a Reason to Remember You Have ThunderboltOh right! That thing on my MacBook Air that Apple made such a big deal about. Thunderbolt. It's extremely quick, and I'd like to use it! But where are the Thunderbolt accessories? But Belkin's got one to multiply your ports.

The Thunderbolt Express Dock serves up three USB ports (we're unsure if it's 2.0 or 3.0), gigabit ethernet, Firewire 800, and—ta da!—another Thunderport jack. It's not the most elegant looking port expander, but ethernet on your Air could be great for those who miss it, and whoever is still a Firewire devotee. As for now it's just on display at the Intel Developer Forum, so no details on cost or release. [9to5Mac]

TomTom's Newest GPS Creepily Auto-Tweets Your Location for No Reason [GPS]

TomTom's Newest GPS Creepily Auto-Tweets Your Location for No ReasonFret not—Hurricane Irene didn't blow all the stupid out of the world. The TomTom Go Live 1535 M packs apps! The coolest one? A neutered Twitter program that only lets you broadcast your location to the internet. Vroom!

Yep, the Twitter app can't actually read or write tweets. But if you want your followers (and anyone who searches for you) to see that you've safely arrived at the grocery store, or are on vacation, or something similarly stupid and potentially privacy-infringing. For $300, you too can have a Twitter client that does basically nothing, instead of just downloading one for free on the smartphone you likely have that also likely gives GPS directions. Oh wait—the Go Live 1535 also has a Yelp app! Nevermind, now apps on a GPS make sense and are good. [BusinessWire via TechCrunch]

The Brightest and Loudest Smartphones in the World Run Symbian… For Some Reason [Nokia]

The Brightest and Loudest Smartphones in the World Run Symbianâ?¦ For Some ReasonWhat do the brightest and loudest smartphones in the world have in common? They're both made by Nokia. And they both run Symbian. Say what?

The 701 has what Nokia claims is the brightest phone screen the world has ever seen (and a 1GHz processor and 8MP camera). The 600 is their loudest smartphone to date. And the tiny 700 Nokia claims is the smallest monoblock phone on the market. All exceptional in some way. All running Symbian.

Why? As dead as Symbian is in the US, people still care for and use it outside of the states. It's why thousands of workers walked out of their offices when Nokia took Microsoft's hand in BFF-dom. And this is the second Symbian update this year. But even Nokia CEO Stephen Elop says that it's "crufty."

But now there's this Symbian Belle release. And it seems they've gone ahead and tried to fix their past mistakes. All stuff that, if Nokia was going to do this sort of thing at all, it should have been two years ago. These phones put themselves in the same category as the recently released N9.

It's time to let go, Nokia. [Nokia via This Is My Next]
