The Official Facebook App for iPad Is Finally Here [IPad Apps]

By Casey Chan Oct 10, 2011 4:16 PM 83,742 58

After sneak peaks and mysteriously long delays, the official Facebook app for iPad is finally here. Goodbye crappy Facebook iPad apps, goodbye non-touch friendly website and say hello to wasting more time on so-called friends!

It looks pretty much like the same Facebook iPad app that was previewed in July which means there's a familiar (for those who use the iPad) left-hand column for simple navigation of the News Feed, Photos, Messages, Groups, Apps, Settings, Chat and more. Facebook Photos on the iPad look especially good (something Facebook has trouble with on their website) because they go full screen and can be zoomed in and swiped. Facebook games can also be played full screen and the iPad app supports AirPlay for Facebook videos as well.

The iPad app is a universal update to their iOS app. You can now download it here. [iTunes via Facebook]

The Samsung Stratosphere: You Can Finally Mash QWERTY Buttons on a 4G LTE Phone [Android]

By Casey Chan Oct 10, 2011 1:11 PM 5,508 22

The Samsung Stratosphere: You Can Finally Mash QWERTY Buttons on a 4G LTE PhoneThe Samsung Stratosphere doesn't seem that special on first glance—Android 2.3, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 5 megapixel camera, 4-inch Super AMOLED screen—but it's the first 4G LTE phone with a slide-out QWERTY, that's got to count for something right? $150 with two year contract on October 13th. Noted Literary Dunce Ayn Rand Finally Goes Interactive with Atlas Shrugged App [IPad Apps]

Noted Literary Dunce Ayn Rand Finally Goes Interactive with Atlas Shrugged AppThat pretentious kid from high school/college/life who cited Ayn Rand quotes about the glory of self-interest and the triumph of the free market, despite being kind of a broke-ass loser? He's about to start masturbating: Atlas Shrugged, the app.

Now, the sterile prose and pseudo-philosophy of Ayn Rand can accompany you to the beach, or on the bus! The $15 iPad version contains the full unabridged text, with lots of talk about skyscrapers and stoic men and whatnot, along with audio and video recordings of Ayn Rand herself, should you need to perform an enhanced interrogation on someone. But what would Ayn Rand think about carrier-subsidized tablet prices? [iTunes via MediaBistro]

Belkin's Thunderbolt Express Dock Finally Gives You a Reason to Remember You Have Thunderbolt [Thunderbolt]

Belkin's Thunderbolt Express Dock Finally Gives You a Reason to Remember You Have ThunderboltOh right! That thing on my MacBook Air that Apple made such a big deal about. Thunderbolt. It's extremely quick, and I'd like to use it! But where are the Thunderbolt accessories? But Belkin's got one to multiply your ports.

The Thunderbolt Express Dock serves up three USB ports (we're unsure if it's 2.0 or 3.0), gigabit ethernet, Firewire 800, and—ta da!—another Thunderport jack. It's not the most elegant looking port expander, but ethernet on your Air could be great for those who miss it, and whoever is still a Firewire devotee. As for now it's just on display at the Intel Developer Forum, so no details on cost or release. [9to5Mac]

Netflix Is Finally Available on Nearly All Android Phones [NetFlix]

Netflix Is Finally Available on Nearly All Android PhonesIt took a few false-ish starts, but all Android phones running Froyo or Gingerbread are FINALLY getting full Netflix support. No more workarounds or rooting. Just sweet streaming. For now, anyway, and if you haven't jettisoned your account.

Needless to say, if you're running anything other than 2.2 or 2.3 (why???), you're out of luck. And tablet owners stiiill need to wait a bit before an update comes their way. But how much longer could that take? [This Is My Next]

Is Nike Finally Releasing the Shoes Marty McFly Wore in Back to the Future? [Video]

OH MY GOD. I've waited my entire life for this. The guys over at NiceKicks think Nike will announce the Nike Air Mag tomorrow. The Nike Air Mag, as you may know, is the shoe that Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future II.

The dots are connecting: we've seen a patent that Nike filed for auto-lacing shoes before, there's a teaser video floating around showing Marty McFly's closet (chock full of Air Mags, natch) and the invitation NiceKicks received from Nike show the metal glasses Doc Brown famously wore in BTTF II. We've seen Nike do BTTF-inspired stuff before (a DeLorean dunk, for example) but this would be the holiest of holy grails.

I don't know guys, but I think tomorrow might be the happiest day of my life. [NiceKicks] You can keep up with Casey Chan, the author of this post, on Twitter or Facebook.

The New Bestest Android Phone Is Finally Coming to America: The Samsung Galaxy S II [Galaxy]

The New Bestest Android Phone Is Finally Coming to America: The Samsung Galaxy S IIThe Samsung Galaxy S II is the blueprint for the next generation of Android phones. And now it's finally coming to the US, on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Only Sprint's announced the price and date so far, and they're first out of the gate: Sept. 16 for $200 (with 2-year contract). AT&T's saying Septemberish for an undetermined amount of bills, and T-Mobile touting availability "this fall."

There are, as with the last around of Galaxy phones that hit every carrier, some differences between the bunch. For instance! AT&T's Galaxy has a 4.3-inch screen, but Sprint and T-Mobile are pushing a monstrous 4.52-inch display that makes it officially giant-sized, like the Infuse 4G. Also, names. Sprint's is going by the Epic Touch 4G. I suspect AT&T and T-Mobile will come up with their own wacky names too.

It is the thinnest 4G smartphone on any of the three networks. Its processor is capable of recording 1080p at the highest bitrate of any smartphone on the market.

TouchWiz 3.0 has undergone some refinement. The chicklet tiles are gone (pressure from Apple, I wonder?). Easier to organize files into folders than before by grouping files into folders within the app drawer itself. The UI is definitely cleaner and looks slightly less toy-like.

Their SocialHub has gotten better. It aggregates your various social networks, but actually gives you a fair amount of control from within it. For example, on a Facebook post, you can like it, comment on it, share it, etc. right from within the SocialHub.

MediaHub will allow you to manage premium content from your phone, and you can connect via HDMI to any HDTV and get full DVD quality for movies. This was sticky before with DRM restrictions, but it looks like they've found a way around that. Watching HD content on a large TV looks very good. Samsung Kies Air allows you to control and edit the content (music, photos, video, etc) on your device from any computer, over the air, via a web browser.

Full specs below.

Specs
4.52 inches on Sprint and T-Mobile; 4.3 inches on AT&T
1.2GHz Samsung Exynos dual-core processor
1GB RAM
16GB internal storage
8MP rear-facing camera with auto-focus, flash, and 1080p video
2MP front-facing camera
