Thunderbolt Is Coming to Windows in 2012 [Thunderbolt]

Thunderbolt Is Coming to Windows in 2012During his keynote address at IDF this morning, Intel vice president and Kangol enthusiast Mooly Eden confirmed that the revolutionary Thunderbolt I/O technology will be making the jump from Macs to PCs when as-of-yet unidentified Asus and Acer models ship in the first half of 2012.

When Apple introduced Thunderbolt earlier this year, PC owners were left out of the high-speed data transfer party, the new I/O technology being an Apple exclusive. But now, with Thunderbolt running on both Mac and PCs—at double the throughput of the latest USB iteration—is there room left in the world for USB 3.0? [Intel]

Belkin's Thunderbolt Express Dock Finally Gives You a Reason to Remember You Have Thunderbolt [Thunderbolt]

Belkin's Thunderbolt Express Dock Finally Gives You a Reason to Remember You Have ThunderboltOh right! That thing on my MacBook Air that Apple made such a big deal about. Thunderbolt. It's extremely quick, and I'd like to use it! But where are the Thunderbolt accessories? But Belkin's got one to multiply your ports.

The Thunderbolt Express Dock serves up three USB ports (we're unsure if it's 2.0 or 3.0), gigabit ethernet, Firewire 800, and—ta da!—another Thunderport jack. It's not the most elegant looking port expander, but ethernet on your Air could be great for those who miss it, and whoever is still a Firewire devotee. As for now it's just on display at the Intel Developer Forum, so no details on cost or release. [9to5Mac]

The LaCie Little Big Disk Is Pretty—Pretty Fast (Like Thunderbolt Fast) [Hardware]

The LaCie Little Big Disk Is Pretty—Pretty Fast (Like Thunderbolt Fast)It's got a 500GB solid state drive and an exterior designed by Neil Poulton—what more do you want? Thunderbolt? Yes, it does that too.

The LaCie Little Big Disk is available as either a 240GB and 500GB SSD, or as a 1TB traditional 7200RPM hard drive. All three varieties use dual disks as a striped RAID set—wherein data is split evenly between the two disks.

And because the Little Big Disk is built with Apple's new Thunderbolt technology, it's lightning fast—with data transfer rates of up to 10Gb/s (double that of USB 3.0). Plus, Thunderbolt allows the LBD to daisy-chain between your MBA, Mac Mini, and Thunderbolt Display.

The LBD measures 1.6 x 5.5 x 3.3 inches and weighs just 1.4 pounds (630 grams). Its aluminum case's unique heat-sink shape keeps the unit cool without requiring a fan and was designed by award-winning designer Neil Poulton, who has worked with LaCie in the past.

No word yet on price but the Little Big Disk is expected to be released Summer of 2011—which can't come soon enough. [LaCie]
