Even More Photo Evidence of a Bigger iPhone 5 Screen (And Home Button!) [Rumors]

Even More Photo Evidence of a Bigger iPhone 5 Screen (And Home Button!)We're about as certain as it gets regarding something you haven't seen that the iPhone 5 will have a big 'ol screen. There's been prior evidence—but here's even more! An iPhone 5 screen protector appears in the wild.

Unearthed by Hong Kong tech site Unwired.hk, the screen film also backs up the expectedly-widened home button. The dimensional difference looks to be the same illustrated by the leaked case from earlier in the month. We'll find out for sure soon! Very, very soon. [Unwire.hk via MacRumors]

Photo Academy App Teaches You How to Be a Better Photographer [IPhone Apps]

Photo Academy App Teaches You How to Be a Better PhotographerYou could have a fancy DSLR, an expensive lens, a sturdy tripod, an extra battery pack, heck even a gnarly camera bag but if you don't know how to take pictures, you don't know how to take pictures. Photo Academy is an app that teaches you how to take better snappies.

It's like a tutorial app, or a how-to-in-an-app, that covers the basics like how to hold your camera and what tweaking ISO and exposure do to more complex instructions like professional photographer tips and editing ideas. There's literally hundreds of different tips for various situations along with ideal camera settings to maximize your pictures—basically, if you're an amateur photographer, you're bound to learn something.

You can even add your photos to "track your progress" though it's sorta unnecessary given that the app's goal is for you to take pictures with your DSLR and not your iPhone cam. $1 [iTunes]

Mobli Is a Camera App That Uses Photo Filters Smarter Than Instagram (Updated) [IPhone Apps]

Mobli Is a Camera App That Uses Photo Filters Smarter Than Instagram (Updated)Mobli is a camera app/photo sharing service that does a lot more than everyone's current fav Instagram. There's channels that allow you to see pictures from people, pictures by places and pictures tied to a topic/current event.

Along with that, Mobli offers a full fledged website (Mobli.com) that lets you see all the pictures posted. It's like a real photo sharing service! What's really smart though, is that in its latest update, Mobli will apply filters to your pictures on their servers. That means less strain on your phone, more life for your phone's battery.

As awesome as that sounds though, here's the not-so-secret about photo sharing networks: all that really matter is how many of your friends are using it. So no matter how good Mobli's tech is (and it's outstanding!), if everyone is on Instagram, well, everyone is on Instagram. Mobli is definitely on the right path to steal Instagram's thunder, especially since they have an app for Android. [iTunes via TechCrunch]

Update: They do have an app for Android! Find it here: Android Market

For $40, this little cube can solve all your color balance woes and not take up all the free space in your bag.

Nikon 50mm F/1.8G ED AF-S Nikkor

Every photographer should have a good fixed-length lens. For standard DSLRs, 50mm is the go-to focal length for awesome street photography. You'll be hard pressed to find a better balance of quality and value in a lens other than this $220 Nikon one.

Pentax K-r With 18-?55mm and 50-?200mm Lenses

Compared to the likes of Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic and Sony, Pentax is a brand that is often overlooked when it comes to DSLRs, but you can get a totally respectable kit for $700. That's cheaper than most Micro Four-Thirds cameras.

Cameras now shoot video, too. Good video. Getting some video-centric gear for your camera isn't all that silly. Like this $30 GorillaPod that's been designed with video use in mind. This thing would be great with a point-and-shoot or a Micro Four-Thirds.

The 85mm Rokinon lens has acquired a cult following because of its aspeherical lens and 1.4 f-stop value, which can produce some razor sharp photos with amazingly shallow depths of field for only $300. Don't believe me? Just check out this video.

All memory cards are not created equal. Some transfer data faster than others and it doesn't just pay off when you're writing data on it. It's essential for properly storing video shot by DSLRs. This Class 6 Sandisk card only costs $14 and can write at speeds up to 20 MB/s.

Why I Won't Post that Photo of Steve Jobs [Steve Jobs]

Why I Won't Post that Photo of Steve JobsThere is a photo floating around the Internet of Steve Jobs looking very ill. It's shocking. You won't find it here. I'm not posting it. Instead, I'm posting a picture of myself that was also snapped unexpectedly. See above.

This isn't about journalism or ethics or taste. We have violated those precepts before to bring you a story, and we'd do it again. But this time it just feels gross.

And have you been reading Gizmodo this week? It's been soooo good. Great reaction to news. Funny stories. Gobs of awesome gadgets. I have to read this shit for a living, and I've been grinning from ear to ear, laughing out loud multiple times a day. It feels good to make something that makes you feel good. This photo doesn't make me feel good.

I'm being selfish.

Thing is, this photograph is news. 100-percent; that's why it's all over the Internet. Steve Jobs looks bad, and investors will likely take that into account when deciding what to do with their stocks. Industry analysts will write reports. You probably want to see the picture. You're probably going to go Google it right now. Let me save you the trouble: It's on TMZ.

But, like I said, you're not gonna find it here. You have other things to read about. There's a hurricane coming, and many you have to start freaking out about it. There are $100 HP Touchpads out there somewhere. Go hack one.

And there's a new iPhone somewhere in the world; its photos want to be leaked. To us. Please go find it.

Have a great weekend.
Joe

PS,

ATTENTION JERKOFFS:

Please do not post the photo in the comments. I will ban you.
