Get Ready for the Next Natural Disaster By Hiding Inside a Giant Yellow Floating Ball [Video]

Get Ready for the Next Natural Disaster By Hiding Inside a Giant Yellow Floating BallWith so many hurricanes and earthquakes and tsunamis and 2012 only being a year away, I wouldn't blame you for preparing for the end of the world. So feel free to buy the Noah Disaster Shelter, a gigantic yellow pod that can house 4 people.

It costs a pretty penny at $3,900 but think about how safe you'll feel (and the money you'll make) when 3 of your closest friends (or family members) come a knockin'. It's an investment people! The Noah Disaster Shelter, created by New CosmoPower, protects up to 4 people. There's a pole to hold on to and room for pillows to make it a wee bit more comfortable too. No one ever said a tsunami is luxurious.

Get Ready for the Next Natural Disaster By Hiding Inside a Giant Yellow Floating Ball The pod is resistant to impact and water so you can float around your destroyed city until stuff calms down. Think of it as a modern day version of Noah's ark, except you can't re-create civilization with it. I guess saving yourself is enough! [Asahi via DVICE]

Twitter Is Ready for iOS 5 [Twitter]

Twitter Is Ready for iOS 5We know Twitter will be integrated into the core of iOS 5. That's a big deal. So what is the SF startup doing to prepare for the onslaught of traffic they're sure to face? Well, nothing.

According to Twitter's VP of Engineering Michael Abbot (and as told by GigaOm), they're already pretty comfortable with the state of their current infrastructure, and feel like the upgrades and improvements they've made to their servers over the past year is built to handle any extra action iOS 5 will throw at it.

"During the last nine months, there's been more infrastructure changes at Twitter than there had been in the previous five years at the company," said Abbott, who joined Twitter in May 2010. "So that whether it be the death of bin Laden, or someone announces a pregnancy, we can handle those issues and you're not seeing a fail whale."

Now, if only that damn iOS 5 would arrive. [GigaOm]

Windows 8 Is Retina Display Ready [Blip]

Windows 8 Is Retina Display ReadyAt today's keynote, Microsoft's presenters hinted at Windows 8 being ready for Retina Display-class monitors. Manufacturers are just starting to edge the Retina Display out, but the standard has yet to be scaled up to desktops and laptops. Needless to say, that's a shit-ton of pixels.
