TSA Scanners Can't Seem to Detect Your Concealed Weapons Through Shiny Clothes [Tsa]

TSA Scanners Can't Seem to Detect Your Concealed Weapons Through Shiny ClothesIt never stops. Caught somewhere between hilarious and infuriating, Marilyn W. Thompson with the Washington Post discovered that her shiny shirt prevented the roughly $150,000 TSA scanner from doing its job. You mean wearing my late-90s shiny suit means EXTRA gropings??

Thompson remarked on her confusion that these scanners can pick up bladed weapons and ass explosives but can't handle a shiny shirt from Banana Republic. To the point that the agents in charge of the scans start whispering "Shiny shirt!" as though it's an emergency code. I'm with you! Maybe there should be three lines: one for the scanners; one for general gropies; and another for shiny gropies with a photo shoot for your trouble. The TSA is damned if they do, damned if they don't. [Washington Post]

Riot-Busting Backpack Scorches Your Face and Dyes You Blue [Weapons]

Riot-Busting Backpack Scorches Your Face and Dyes You BlueIf you're rioting/looting/celebrating the victory of your local ballgame squad, and you see a cop with one of these—run in the opposite direction. The Crowd Buster is well-named, firing five gallons of pepper spray up to 150 feet.

But it's not just pepper spray—oh no, this isn't something you keep in your purse. The Crowd Buster is so menacing, it requires a crew of two to operate—one to hold the pack, and one to spray—I mean, disperse—the shit out of everyone. Pellet-fire or fine mist modes are both available, should you want to target particular miscreants or just gas a giant crowd. And once they're writhing in pain, they won't be able to slip away anonymously—the spray contains a dye that sticks for up to three weeks.

Still, I think I'd rather go up against this monster than the taser-launching helicopter. Police are getting some very imaginative new toys! [AWT via KitUp!]

SEAL Team 6 Wants Special Remote Cameras for War Dogs [Weapons]

SEAL Team 6 Wants Special Remote Cameras for War DogsWar dogs fight! War dogs get shot! War dogs cry! War dogs rappel down walls! And soon, war dogs will be feisty canine war cameras. Their human pals in SEAL Team 6 want mobile, furry eyes in battle.

DefenseTech reports that DEVGRU—SEAL Team 6's formal name—requested the following hookup from the Pentagon:

The contractor shall provide a a canine transmit and receive kit (1.0 - 1.5GHz) comprising of Transmitter/Camera Unit; including a battery and antenna. Includes Receiver includes battery and antennas. Six-way Battery Charger, Peli-Case, and user manual shall be included.

Send out your cameradog, and get ground-level footage beamed back to you from cover. Just strap the (presumably night vision) camera on a war dog's bulletproof back, and you've got recon that runs faster than a robot, and can bite people. A bot may be harder to kill, but it's certainly less multifarious than a dog sidekick, and much more intimate than a drone. Not bad! And we're glad the user manual will be included. This will also mean the advent of first person war dog video, which has me grinning like an idiot. [DefenseTech]
