Griffin's Faces Case Rips Off a Certain Mr. Potato [Cases]

By Andrew Liszewski Oct 15, 2011 7:00 PM 4,146 7

Griffin's Faces Case Rips Off a Certain Mr. PotatoSince the idea of jamming humorous facial features into a non-descript vegetable turned out to be one of the most popular toys of all time. Griffin must've figured the same thing could happen with their new customizable Faces cases for the iPod Touch. Unfortunately, lightning rarely strikes twice.

Available in two stereotypical gender-specific versions, their silicone Faces cases come in either a blindingly neon pink female, or neon blue male variety. And just like Mr. Potato Head, either case can be customized with an included set of three unique mouths and six different eyes. But unlike Mr. Potato Head, these seem to be lacking any kind of unique charm that would endear them to kids for years to come. Each set is available for $25, though for some reason only for the iPod Touch. iPhone users will have to settle with a sharpie or liquid paper if they want their devices to smile. It’s A Case! It’s A Battery! It’s A Projector! It’s … ALL OF THEM [Cases]

By natt garun Oct 14, 2011 5:40 PM 17,049 7

Itâ??s A Case! Itâ??s A Battery! Itâ??s A Projector! Itâ??s â?¦ ALL OF THEMSometimes, smartphone screens are just not big enough. Linking it to a projector is helpful but it's hardly portable and before you know it, the battery's gone. The Monolith, a triple-threat iPhone case that works as a projector and a battery pack, can light up your room while keeping your gear booboo-free.

The case, made by Japanese accessory maker Century, is said to be capable of providing about three hours of image projection at sizes up to 60 cm (in 16:9 format), in 640×360 resolution, with a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. But with a brightness of a mere 12 lumens, it's certainly no makeshift movie theater. At best, you'll probably end up using it for a viral video party … if you're entertained by three hours of that stuff.

If you are (and I'm not judging you!), you won't have to worry about killing your battery life; the 1,900 mAh battery will either cancel out the drain or boost your iPhone's lifespan up to 50 percent without projector usage and takes four hours to fully charge. For $260, it's a pricey battery pack, but you can decide whether the novelty of having a handy projector is worth the investment.

The Monolith is available in black or white. [Sirobako via TechCrunch]

iPhone 4 Cases Probably Won't Fit the iPhone 4S [IPhone]

By Casey Chan Oct 10, 2011 9:42 AM 28,262 55

iPhone 4 Cases Probably Won't Fit the iPhone 4SThough the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S look the same, it seems like the AT&T iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S are just different enough—the silent switch and volume up/down buttons are shifted ever so slightly—that your old cases won't fit.

The iPhone 4S button layout is a lot like the Verizon iPhone 4 (though we can't confirm if they're exactly the same) and those cases needed to accomodate for the button shift. There were cases that worked for both models, yes, but if you had an AT&T iPhone 4 and a case that didn't have an open gap for the iPhone's left side buttons, you'll proobaaably need to look for a new one. And here you thought Apple didn't change anything! [Android-Sale via UberGizmo]

EARonic iPhone Cases Replace Your Ear While You Take a Call [Cases]

Anytime you take a call, the outside world loses a good chunk of your entire bodily apparatus capable of communication. That sucks. So you can set some of those people at ease with the EARonic case.

The cases were designed by Daniela Gilsanz at the Rhode Island School of Design. They have their limitations: obviously, they won't let you hear through your phone; and you'll have to account for some of them looking nothing like the side of your face it's sticking. But it's something, ok? Your friends will totally thank you for showing you care. And they look great. $20. [CollabCubed via Laughing Squid]
