There's No Such Thing as Too Many Handles on a Suitcase [Travel]

By Andrew Liszewski Oct 15, 2011 1:00 PM 9,109 14

There's No Such Thing as Too Many Handles on a SuitcaseUnless you travel with just the clothes on your back, you're going to be spending part of your vacation awkwardly wrangling a heavy suitcase through airports and in and out of taxis. Cursing American Tourist for their single handle designs all the while.

You'd think that by now luggage manufacturers would have realized this and provided ample places to grip, pull and tug a heavy suitcase. But they haven't. Instead, it took a Quirky inventor to come up with a third-party solution called the Lift. It's literally nothing more than an adjustable, heavy-duty, nylon t-strap that wraps around a suitcase. But what makes it awesome is the inclusion of extra handles located all over the strap, making the whole kit and caboodle easier to lift. It attaches with plastic seatbelt-like buckles so you can easily pop it off for inevitable luggage inspections, and is currently available for pre-sale on Quirky for just $24. [Lift via Fancy]

The Closest Thing We Have to a Holodeck Is Used to Molest 3D Fairies [Video]

The Closest Thing We Have to a Holodeck Is Used to Molest 3D Fairies I dream of having a room full of interactive 3D holograms, much like those found in Star Trek and X-Men. This interactive holographic system, which combines a glassesless 3D parallax display with a touch sensor, gets me closer to that dream.

Unfortunately, this slice of the future shown here is wasted on a game demo predicated upon diddling a 3D sprite. The technology, called RePro3D, involves a 3D image generated from a projector array that's viewed through a half-mirror, causing the 3D effect. Then a tactile sensor is placed around the finger which gives the sensation of touch when someone violates interacts with the object. That said the see-saw demo that begins at 1:40 in the clip looks pretty damn fantastic. [TechCrunch via SlashGear]

CLOO App Lets You Rent Your Bathroom to Strangers Because that's a Totally Safe and Normal Thing [Video]

CLOO App Lets You Rent Your Bathroom to Strangers Because that's a Totally Safe and Normal Thing Places I don't want complete strangers: #1, lying on top of my bed while I'm having sex. #2, relieving themselves inside my bathroom. CLOO thinks I'm in the minority, and is facilitating the latter. NO. NO NO NO. WHAT. NO.

The crew behind CLOO, who apparently think putting a sassy salsa soundtrack to their demo video somehow makes the notion of a stranger coming in off the street and taking a shit in your bathroom (or doing Christ only knows what else) more palatable, are incorrect in their assumption. Unless I need spare dollars to feed the worst heroin addiction mankind has ever known, or am conducting a social experiment to see how many times I can be strangled to death, I don't want strangers in my apartment using my bathroom. I don't want strangers in my apartment baking cakes. I don't want strangers in my apartment reading to me as I fall asleep. I don't want strangers in my apartment. I don't care if we have mutual friends on Facebook, as CLOO points to as a means of mitigating creepiness. Hey! It's still creepy! They're still strangers to me. I think the basic ground rule of If you don't have my phone number to personally call me for permission to use my toilet, the answer is no, works pretty well.

No matter how much snazzy UI work and Google Maps integration you throw at something, some ideas are just bad ideas at their very foundation. And now, I turn the hourglass over and wait until someone invests $25 million in this ludicrous idea. [CLOO via Laughing Squid]
